My talk will have two parts. In the first part I will overview our group's work on collisions of black holes in four and higher dimensions, also exploring different space-time asymptotics, and the inclusion of charge, based on numerical relativity methods. In the second part I will describe our work on "Shock wave collisions" as a semi-analytical technique to understand the collision of two black holes at very high speeds. In particular I will present a remarkable pattern for the inelasticity in terms of the space-time dimension, obtained in first order perturbation theory.
